Outdoor Cat5e Shielded Ethernet Cable is a specialized type of cable designed for outdoor networking applications that require reliable and high-speed data transmission.

Physical Characteristics

  • Construction: It consists of four pairs of twisted copper wires, similar to standard Cat5e cables. However, it has additional shielding to protect against electromagnetic interference (EMI) and radio frequency interference (RFI). The shielding is usually made of a metallic material, such as aluminum foil or braided copper, which surrounds the twisted pairs. The cable is encased in a durable outer sheath that is designed to withstand the elements. The outer sheath is typically made of a UV-resistant and waterproof material, such as polyethylene (PE) or polyvinyl chloride (PVC), to protect the inner wires from moisture, sunlight, and other environmental factors.
  • Connector Type: Usually, Outdoor Cat5e Shielded Ethernet Cables have RJ45 connectors at both ends, which are designed to fit into Ethernet ports on devices such as routers, switches, and network cameras. The connectors are often sealed or have a protective cover to prevent water and dust from entering.
  • Color Coding: The wires inside the cable are color-coded according to the T568A or T568B standard, which is the same as for indoor Cat5e cables. The standard color codes for the four pairs are white/orange and orange, white/green and green, white/blue and blue, white/brown and brown.
